Mariah Carey may face a booze battle

Mariah Carey may have an issue brewing with her new Black Irish liqueur. An Irish distillery says it holds the trademark on the name.

The Darker Still Spirits Company registered the Black Irish trademark in Great Britain and the E.U. back in 2020, which was more than a year before Mariah launched her liqueur online. Darker Still has been selling a product line under that name across Europe.

Darker Still owner David Phelan said, "We launched the original Black Irish Whiskey brand in June 2020. It is a unique offering, named after, and created using, Ireland’s two most famous exports -- black stout and Irish whiskey."

Phelan has also questioned Carey's right to sell her "Irish cream" liqueur in Ireland because of questions surrounding where it's actually made. (FFT)
