Pat Benatar has stopped performing one of her biggest hits at her concerts. The future Rock & Roll Hall of Famer recently told U.S.A. Today, 'We’re not doing 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot.'
Pat went on to say, “Her fans were having a heart attack and I’m like, 'I’m sorry, in deference to the victims of the families of these mass shootings, I’m not singing it.'
Benatar added, "I tell them, 'if you want to hear the song, go home and listen to it.' (The title) is tongue in cheek, but you have to draw the line. I can’t say those words out loud with a smile on my face, I just can’t. I’m not going to go on stage and soap box – I go to my legislators – but that’s my small contribution to protesting. I’m not going to sing it. Tough."
The song was released in 1980 from her second album, Crimes of Passion. It was Pat’s first Top 10 single in the U.S.
In lieu of not performing “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” she has added a few that she doesn't always perform like "In the Heat of the Night," her cover of John Mellencamp's "I Need a Lover," and The Beatles' "Helter Skelter" from her third album, Precious Time.
