Gene Simmons says he has no friends. The legendary rocker admitted that in a recent interview with ‘Goldmine’ magazine.
Simmons said, "Other than Paul Stanley, and we only get together when we do stuff for the band… How do I say this without sounding inhuman? I don't have friends.”
He added, "Yeah, if friends means, 'Gee, I don't know what I'm going to do this afternoon. Hey, you want to come over and hang out?' I'm more interested in what I want to do, and I don't want to pretend that I'm interested in what you want to do because I am not."
Stanley agrees with Simmons. Paul recently told Howie Mandel on his Does Stuff podcast that the first time they met, he didn't even like Gene.
Paul said, "I came to my friend's apartment and he said, 'Stan, meet Gene.' You know, and he said, 'Gene, Stan writes songs too.' And Gene said, 'Play me one.' And I played him one of my songs and I think that was surprising to him because he thought [John] Lennon and [Paul] McCartney and Gene were like the only three people writing songs. But Gene at heart is a good, good person. Again, he's my brother. That's different than saying, 'Oh, somebody's your best friend.' He's not my best friend. We don't commiserate and we don't spend a lot of time together. But he would always be there for me."
Stanley and Simmons reunited this week as they continue the U.S. leg of their End of the Road tour. Get more on KISS on iHeartRadio, keyword KISS.
