Peter Frampton recently updated his fans on his condition. The legendary singer-guitarist is suffering from Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM) which weakens the legs, arms, wrists and fingers. The condition has forced him to change the way to perform during his farewell tour dates in Europe this fall.
Frampton told Classic Rock magazine, "Well… my legs are not good, and I’ve decided I am going to sit down on these upcoming tour dates in Europe.”
He added, “I can’t stand. That would be dangerous for me now, because I get so carried away when I’m playing that I’m liable to fall over [laughs].”
Frampton also said, “It’s starting to affect my hands, but not enough yet, so I can still play a good lick. But I’ll be honest, I’m anxious about it. I haven’t played over there (Europe) in so long, and I have progressed in my disease.”
Frampton performed while seated last month at the Buddy Holly’s 85th birthday celebration concert in Lubbock. He said, "It felt very comfortable [laughs]. Better than leaning on a piano. It was me, Steve Cropper, Albert Lee, Duane Eddy and a few others.”
Frampton was diagnosed with IBM back in 2017. He starts his tour on November 5th in England.
