Elton John's ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour will be the subject of both an upcoming documentary and a book with memories and photos from his fans.
The book will be published sometime in 2023. The book title and other details aren’t available just yet. The documentary Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: The Final Elton John Performances and the Years That Made His Legend is currently in the works. The film will focus on the tour and Sir Elton’s breakout years from 1970 to 1975, when he released 10 albums and scored his biggest hits
The documentary will also feature unseen concert footage from the past five decades, and a look at Elton’s handwritten journals and present-day footage of Elton John and his family.
Filmmakers R.J. Cutler and Elton's husband, manager and filmmaker David Furnish, are asking for help in finding rare or unseen footage captured during the years 1970 through 1975. They’re specifically looking for footage from Elton’s show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles in 1970, a Madison Square Garden show in 1974—which was also John Lennon’s last public performance, a Dodger Stadium Show in L.A. from 1975 and his 1970 recording session at A&R Recording Studios in New York.
Fans with any photos, footage or audio recordings, are asked to go to ThisMachine.net/Elton-Archival.
Elton once commented on being more comfortable performing live as he’s gotten older. He said, "As I've grown older, I love to play live much more -- I feel much more comfortable with my own self. So being on stage is much more comfortable to me -- I don't have to hide behind big glasses and costumes anymore. I can just sit there and hang out behind the mic and piano and enjoy myself."
Elton is down to his final shows on the ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour with several shows including three at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, where the tour will end on November 20th. The final show will air on Disney+.
