Rockefeller Center in New York City has been placing Christmas trees in its plaza since way back in 1931. The first tree lighting ceremony took place during the Depression in 1933. For decades, the tree lighting ceremony heralded the beginning of the holiday season in the U.S.
This year’s ceremony will take place this Wednesday evening with musical performances from Blake Shelton and wife Gwen Stefani, Jimmie Allen, Andrea Bocelli along with Matteo Bocelli and Virginia Bocelli, David Foster and Katharine McPhee, Brett Eldredge, Mickey Guyton, Alicia Keys, the Muppets of Sesame Street, Dan + Shay, The Shindellas, Louis York and many more.
"Christmas in Rockefeller Center" will air on Wednesday at 7pm (Central) on NBC (KCEN-TV in Central Texas).
