Elton John has just compiled a list of his favorite songs of 2022 that he shared with listeners of his Apple Music show, ‘Rocket Hour.’
Sir Elton’s favorites from this past year include:
- "Last Last" - Burna Boy
- "Happy New Year" - Let’s Eat Grandma
- "Grace" - Marcus Mumford
- "Firebabe" - Stormzy
- "Run the Credits" - Oliver Sim
- "Go" - Cat Burns
- "Growing Up" - The Linda Lindas
Elton, who also has favorites from Nova Twins, Wet Leg, Yard Act, and Paolo Nutini, says, “With the Rocket Hour we just try and give people exposure by playing and interviewing them. It’s something I’ve been doing now for over six years. I haven’t grown tired of it. I love it. The new music makes me feel fantastic. It inspires me.”
He added, “So I have to thank all the new artists, and all the old artists that we play on the show, because we don’t just play new artists. But every week that I do the show is such a pleasure for me, so thank you.”
Elton talked about why he encourages young artists. He said, "I want all the artists that I manage to have careers that last for 30 years if they want it. And I've had all the experience that I've had and those validation things from other artists makes you feel so good. You are so touched by it, but it also gives you so much confidence. And it's really worth going out of your way to do that. When I first started out and had my first success with the Elton John record in 1970-'71, a lot of my peers and idols were very supportive. Leon Russell couldn't have been any nicer to me than he was nor encouraging. George Harrison sent me a telegram saying congratulations on a great record."
Elton is off for the Christmas holiday and will resume his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour on January 8th in Newcastle, Australia.
