Sir Elton John is featured in Prince Harry's memoir, Spare, which was published next Tuesday.
Elton was friends with Harry's mother, the late Princess Diana, and, for the most part has been supportive of the Royal Family, Harry says they (he and Elton) don't always see eye to eye.
For example, when Harry asked Elton to sing the version of "Candle in the Wind" he did at his mom's funeral for the 10th anniversary concert of her death in 2007. Elton declined the rquest, saying it would be too "morbid." So, unstead, he played "Your Song," which, Harry writes, he sang with "a twinkle and a smile, aglow with good memories.”
Back in 2019, Harry and Meghan visited with Elton at his home in the South of France, where Elton told him he was going to serialize his autobiography, Me, in The Daily Mail.
Harry says he couldn’t understand, because both he, Meghan and Elton had sued the British tabloid for defamatory stories. Asked why go with a paper that made his life "miserable," Elton replied he "wanted people to read" the book.
Harry says he really didn't push the issue. "I loved him. I’ll always love him. And I also didn’t want to spoil the holiday.”
