Sting made a surprise performance at a Jeff Beck tribute concert in Sydney, Australia last Friday.
Upon taking the stage, Sting said, “I remember my good friend Jeff. I’ve known him since 1980. I performed with him many, many times. Toured with him. I got to know him, shared musicians and sang with him, most notably at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame when [Beck inducted Rod Stewart] in 1994 and he asked me to sing a Curtis Mayfield song called ‘People Get Ready.’ I think Rod Stewart was washing his hair that night so he asked me.”
Beck, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame twice (with The Yardbirds in 1992 and as a solo artist in 2009) passed away on January 10th from bacterial meningitis at age 78.
