Original Journey singer and keyboardist Gregg Rolie said he was pleased with the way his appearance with the band last week went in Austin. He told the Let There Be Talk podcast, "Neal [Schon] called me about doing this a while back, and we just went through it over and over and over...”
He added, "It was great to do. And they arranged it really well where it actually became like an encore."
Rolie and Journey performed six songs together -- "Just the Same Way," "Of a Lifetime," "Feeling That Way," "Anytime," "Black Magic Woman," from Rolie and Schon's time in Santana, and "Any Way You Want It."
On the topic of performing additional shows, Rolie said, "We'll never know. I mean, I practice a lot, so for me it was kind of like [doing the Journey Through Time dates with Schon in 2019]. I went over the Journey Through Time stuff that I had, and I did that for a while. And then it just kind of dwindled down to other things, and that's fine...”
He also said, "How many bands do you know that go through this kind of turmoil and still continue? That's what's amazing to me. It's still continuing. And Journey has become Journey; it's a household name. And it goes through changes all the time. It's amazing."
Rolie and Schon formed Journey back in 1973. He left the band in 1980, but was part of their induction into the Rock & Roll Hal of Fame in 2017.
