Elton John: Take Me to the Hearing

Elton John commented on testifying remotely last Wednesday before the U.S. Foreign Relations Committee about extending the essential U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

He says, “The results of PEPFAR investment in HIV/AIDS education, prevention and compassionate care in the past 20 years are quite mind-blowing — it has saved 25 million lives and the positive repercussions on people’s life chances and communities are impossible to imagine."

He adds, "This global network of collaborative partners and funding is so vitally important to everything we do at the Elton John AIDS Foundation and continuing PEPFAR means we really can, one day soon, consign AIDS to the history books.”

In other Elton news, he's paid tribute to comedian Barry Humphries, best known for his character Dame Edna. Elton says, "Barry was the funniest man ever." Humphries died on Saturday in a Sydney, Australia hospital following complications from hip surgery. He was 89.
