Roger Waters says no to celebrating birthdays

Roger Waters turned 80 last week, on September 6th, but he's perfectly okay if no one remembered. The legendary rocker doesn’t celebrate birthdays anymore.

Waters talked about turning 80. He said, "I'm reconciled to it [but] I don't do birthdays by and large. As anybody's whose toured with me will know, when I have a birthday on the road, not just the band but the crew and everybody and all the truck drivers and bus drivers and the catering, they're all under strict instructions that nobody mentions my birthday."

Waters also recalled the one time his band acknowledged his birthday (against his wishes). He said, "We were touring The Wall and my birthday occurred. The second half starts with the band behind the wall, so I walked onto the stage to start and of course written in letters about 15-foot high on the back of the wall, 'Happy Birthday Roger! blah blah blah. So nobody takes any notice of the gaffer."

Waters is set to release his remake of Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, which he’s labeled The Dark Side of the Moon Redux. It’ll be out on October 6th. He'll perform the album in its entirety on October 8th and 9th in London. He’ll then resume  his This Is Not a Drill tour on October 24th in Brazil.
