Cher gets festive for the holidays this year

Cher is 77 years old, but her new release is not your grandma's Christmas album. The legendary singer and actress has announced that she will release a festive album titled ‘Christmas’ on October 20th. The album will feature appearances by Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Wonder and Darlene Love, among others.

Cher has been hyping the set for a while, and now she has revealed some details about the project. She tells Yahoo Entertainment, “I mean, there’s no ‘Silent Night’ and there’s no ‘Frosty the Snowman’... It’s rock and roll, it’s disco, it’s everything. And I’ve got great people on it with me, and I’ve never had anybody on my record [before].”

Cher says she wanted to make a Christmas album that reflects her personality and style. She says, “I wanted to do something that was fun and different and not the same old thing. I wanted to do something that was me.”

The album will include original songs and covers of classics with a twist. Cher says, “I did ‘Jingle Bells’ as a rock song, I did ‘White Christmas’ as a disco song, I did ‘Santa Baby’ as a rap song. I had so much fun doing it.”

She also says she was thrilled to collaborate with some of her musical heroes and friends. She says, “Cyndi Lauper is one of my best friends, and we did ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ together. Stevie Wonder is a legend, and we did ‘What Christmas Means to Me’ together. Darlene Love is the queen of Christmas, and we did ‘All Alone on Christmas’ together.”

Cher has worked with Love before: She did backing vocals on the Queen of Christmas's classic “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” Cher says she admires Love's voice and spirit. She says, “She’s amazing. She’s got such a powerful voice and such a positive energy. She’s always smiling and laughing. She’s a joy to work with.”

Christmas will be Cher's 27th studio album and her first since 2018's Dancing Queen, which was a tribute to ABBA. Cher says she hopes her fans will enjoy her Christmas album and feel the holiday spirit. She says, “I hope they will dance and sing along and have a good time. I hope they will feel the love and the joy that I put into this album.”

Cher is one of the most successful and influential artists of all time. She has sold over 100 million records worldwide and has won an Oscar, a Grammy, an Emmy and three Golden Globes. She has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Goddess of Pop Hall of Fame.

Cher is currently on her Here We Go Again tour, which will resume in 2024 after being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tour will include dates in North America, Europe and Australia. Cher says she is excited to get back on stage and perform for her fans.

Cher is also working on other projects, including a biopic about her life, a Broadway musical based on her songs and a book about her career. She says she is grateful for her long-lasting success and popularity. She says, “I’m very lucky to have such loyal and supportive fans who have been with me through everything. They are the reason why I do what I do.”
