The Rolling Stones drop second single from upcoming album

The Rolling Stones have released a second single off their new album, ‘Hackney Diamonds.’ The song, titled "Sweet Sounds of Heaven", features : Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder.

The song was written by Mick Jagger, who came up with the melody at home in London. He started playing a chord pattern of C, F and B Flat on his piano and then added lyrics about finding joy in music. He says, "It's a song about how music can lift you up and make you feel good, even in the darkest times."

The song was recorded in three different studios in three different countries: France, England and the United States. But it was at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles where the magic happened. Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder joined the Stones in the studio and added their vocals and instruments to the track.

Jagger says Gaga was in the studio next door and she "just walked in and curled up in a ball in front of me on the floor. And then someone gave her a mic, and she started singing oohs and ahs.” He adds that he was impressed by her vocal range and versatility. He says, "I know she's a great singer but I've never heard her sing like that before."

Stevie Wonder also contributed to the song by playing piano, Moog bass and electric piano. Jagger says working with him was "really special" and that he is a "musical genius". He says, "He plays piano. He plays Moog bass. He plays electric piano."

The single release of "Sweet Sounds of Heaven" clocks in at just over five minutes, but the album version is over two minutes longer -- 7:22.

Lady Gaga previously joined the Stones onstage during their 50 & Counting tour in 2012, performing “Gimme Shelter,” which was eventually released on their GRRR Live! album. And Stevie Wonder toured with them on their 1972 U.S. tour where they would regularly perform a medley of “Satisfaction” and “Uptight (Everything’s Alright)” together.

Hackney Diamonds, the Stones' first album of original material since 2005's A Bigger Bang, will be out on October 20th. The album features 12 new songs that showcase the band's diverse musical influences and styles. The first single, "Living in a Ghost Town", was released in April and became a hit on streaming platforms.

The Rolling Stones are also planning to resume their No Filter tour in 2024, after it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tour will include dates in North America, Europe and Asia. The band says they are eager to get back on stage and perform for their fans.
