Eight months after the 50th anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd’s landmark 1973 album, ‘The Dark Side of the Moon,’ comes a re-imagined version from its architect, the band’s former bassist and singer Roger Waters.
Titled The Dark Side of the Moon Redux, this new album features 10 songs that, like the original, run seamlessly together. Waters reflects on the original album, saying, “The original Dark Side of the Moon feels in some ways like the lament of an elder being on the human condition. But Dave (Gilmour), Rick (Wright), Nick (Mason), and I were so young when we made it, and when you look at the world around us, clearly the message hasn’t stuck. That’s why I started to consider what the wisdom of an 80-year-old could bring to a re-imagined version… I’m immensely proud of what we have created, a work that can sit proudly alongside the original, hand-in-hand across a half-century of time.”
Waters emphasizes that this new version is “not more cynical” than the original; rather, it’s “more hopeful.” The re-imagined album is also more direct and simpler. Waters listened to it and found himself moved by its emotional impact.
The Dark Side of the Moon Redux will be available on CD, vinyl, and digitally. The vinyl version includes a bonus 13-minute original composition inspired by the re-recording as a final track, titled “Original Composition.”
To celebrate this release, Waters will perform the entire album at the London Palladium this Sunday and Monday before resuming his This Is Not a Drill tour on October 24th in Brazil .
