Steely Dan fans who were looking forward to seeing the band open for the Eagles on their current tour will have to wait a little longer, as frontman Donald Fagen has fallen ill and is unable to perform. The nature of his illness has not been disclosed, but a band member has assured fans that he is not hospitalized and that he will be back on stage soon.
The band was supposed to open for the Eagles on Monday night in Indianapolis, but they were replaced by Steve Miller, who will also fill in for them on October 17th in Cleveland. On Sunday, Eagles singer and guitarist Vince Gill will do double duty and open the show in Pittsburgh.
Don Henley announced the news on stage on Monday, saying, "We're sorry to report that our good friend Donald Fagen is under the weather. He's not in the hospital as some reports have said. He's just not feeling well. We hope he gets better soon."
Steely Dan trumpet player and multi-instrumentalist Michael Leonhart posted an update on his Instagram account, saying, "All is fine. Just a little illness. We’ll be back on stage soon. Stay tuned…"
