Agnetha Faltskog, one of the four members of the iconic pop group ABBA, has confessed that she was not sure about the idea of ‘ABBA Voyage,’ the upcoming concert that will feature digital avatars of the band performing their hits.
In an interview with The Guardian, Faltskog said that she was initially skeptical about the project, which required them to wear motion capture suits and work with technicians for a month in February 2020.
"I was a bit suspicious, I must say – you know, what is this? We were working the whole of February [2020] to prepare -- it doesn’t sound so much, but it was, performing the songs with all these technicians and all the things on your body. We were working really hard and I’ll be totally honest, I was not so comfortable with it," Faltskog said.
However, she said that she gradually warmed up to the idea, thanks to the music and the fans' enthusiasm. "After maybe four or five days you get into it: OK, I’ll go there again. Also, the music helps, because it gives us a very special feeling, and somewhere along the way I could just feel proud -- they really want to see us again," Faltskog said.
Faltskog also revealed another benefit of the show's format: she can enjoy it from the comfort of her home. “I’m at home in my bed, and at the same time in London. It’s very cleverly done, isn’t it?” Faltskog said.
ABBA Voyage is set to open in London in May 2024, and will feature 22 songs from the band's catalog, including two new ones from their upcoming album of the same name, which will be released on Friday.
