Sammy Hagar has opened up about his late friend and bandmate Eddie Van Halen's musical aspirations before he passed away from cancer last year.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Hagar said that Eddie wanted to experiment with different instruments and genres if they had the chance to record together again.
"He wanted to keep going... When we first connected, you know, again, after we went through all the fighting, and he was sick, and I reached out, and we got together and talked a lot. He was talking about playing cello and playing some wind instruments," Hagar recalled.
Hagar added that Eddie was working on some new music and invited him to join him in the studio. "He said, 'Yeah, next year, you know, we'll get together, make some noise and all that stuff,'" Hagar said.
Hagar praised Eddie's musical talent and creativity, saying that he had hands that would do what he thought. "He was so musical. And he had hands that would do what he thought. My hands won't do it. I think that's why I'm a singer. I think my voice will do it. I think my hands, you know, like they don't want to cooperate," Hagar said.
The last album Hagar recorded with Van Halen was 1995's Balance, one of the four they did with Hagar included on The Collection 2, which came out on Friday. The collection features remastered versions of Van Halen's albums from 1978 to 1984 and from 1986 to 1995.
Hagar said that he was proud of the legacy he and Eddie left behind with their music. "We made some great music together. And I'm just so happy that we were able to reconnect before he left," Hagar said.
