Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards have opened up about their feelings on the loss of their longtime Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who died in August 2021 from cancer at the age of 80.
In an interview with The Guardian, Jagger said that he still thinks about Watts a lot and misses his humor, taste, elegance and attitude. He also said that he always bounced songs off him and wondered what he would have played or liked. Jagger also reflected on the mortality of his friends and said that he doesn't have any friends older than him, apart from the band. He said that all his friends are much younger and that it's easier that way.
Richards also shared his sentiments in an audio clip, saying that he still sees Watts smile every morning when he walks downstairs. He said that they don't forget each other and that he misses him so.
Watts played on two tracks on the new Stones album, Hackney Diamonds, which also features former bassist Bill Wyman and Elton John. Steve Jordan, who Watts chose as his replacement, plays on the rest of the album.
