Legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young is releasing a new album on December 8th, but it's not exactly new. ‘Before and After’ is a collection of 13 songs that Young has re-recorded, mostly in acoustic versions, to give them a fresh sound and feel.
Young said that the album is meant to be listened to as a whole, not in parts or shuffled. He said that the songs blend into each other and capture the feeling of the original recordings. The album features some of Young's most famous songs, such as "Mr. Soul," which he first performed with Buffalo Springfield in 1967, and "Comes a Time," which was the title track of his 1978 album.
It also includes some songs from his recent albums, such as "Don't Forget Love" from Barn, his 2021 album with Crazy Horse, and "I'm the Ocean" from Mirror Ball, his 1995 album with Pearl Jam.
One of the songs, "If You Got Love," is a previously unreleased track that Young wrote in the early 1980s.

Before and After is Young's 43rd studio album and his fourth release of 2023, following Barn, Carnegie Hall 1970 and The Times They Are A-Changin'.
