Cyndi Lauper has joined a new campaign to raise awareness and funds for mental health services. The Not Alone Challenge, launched by fellow singer Jewel through her Inspiring Children Foundation, aims to provide free and accessible mental health resources to those who need them, especially during the holiday season.
Lauper, who has been vocal about her own struggles with depression and anxiety, said in a statement, "This means a lot to me because proven and effective mental health resources should be available to everyone. If you're struggling, please know you don't have to do so in silence."
The Not Alone Challenge invites people to share their own stories of overcoming mental health challenges, or to show their support for those who are suffering, by posting a video or a photo on social media with the hashtag #NotAloneChallenge. The campaign also features an online auction at NotAloneChallenge.org, where fans can bid on items donated by celebrities such as Lionel Richie, Billie Eilish, Kelly Clarkson, and Andrea Bocelli.
Lauper, who is known for her hits such as "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "True Colors", as well as her humanitarian work for LGBTQ+ rights and homeless youth, said she hopes the Not Alone Challenge will help break the stigma around mental health and encourage people to seek help when they need it. She said, "We all have our ups and downs, and we all need someone to talk to. I'm proud to be part of this initiative that is making a difference in people's lives."
