The Rolling Stones have added another venture to their long list of achievements: their own rum. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have unveiled Crossfire Hurricane Rum, a premium dark rum aged in American oak barrels and blended with Caribbean spices.
The rum is named after the opening lyric of their 1968 hit "Jumpin' Jack Flash", which was inspired by a near-death experience Richards had during a lightning storm. The rum's label features the band's iconic tongue logo and the slogan "It's only rum but I like it", a reference to their 1971 song "It's Only Rock 'n Roll (But I Like It)".
Ronnie Wood is not involved in the rum business due to his sobriety. Wood has been sober since 2010, after struggling with alcohol and drug addiction for years. He has said that he is "very happy" with his life and that he does not miss drinking.
To celebrate the launch of their rum, Jagger and Richards have shared four cocktail recipes that fans can try at home this holiday season. The recipes are:
- Two Licks: Pour 2oz Crossfire Hurricane Rum into an ice filled old fashioned glass. Garnish with 2 black cherries on a cocktail pick.
- Gold and Stormy: Pour 1.5oz Crossfire Hurricane Rum into an ice filled collins glass. Add lime juice and ginger beer and stir to combine. Dash with Angostura Bitters and garnish with a black cherry and lime wheel on a cocktail pick.
- Crossfire Mojito: Place mint leaves in the bottom and a collins glass and press gently with a bar spoon. Add Crossfire Hurricane Rum, simple syrup, and lime. Fill glass ¾ full with crushed ice and swizzle with a bar spoon. Top with beer and remaining space with crushed ice. Garnish with a mint bouquet.
- Crossfire Espresso Martini: Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and give a short hard shake. Fine strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a fine dusting of espresso swirled with a straw to make a hurricane.
All these recipes can be found at CrossFireHurricane.com/Cocktails, where fans can also order the rum online or find a retailer near them.
The Rolling Stones are not the first rock stars to venture into the liquor industry. Other bands and artists who have launched their own drinks include Metallica, AC/DC, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Bob Dylan, and Sammy Hagar.
