KISS farewell weekend kicked off in style in New York

KISS made a special appearance at the Empire State Building in New York last Thursday. Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, were there to flip the switch to light up the iconic building in silver in honor of their logo, and red, purple, blue and green, representing the colors of each band member’s character.

The event also featured images of the band and their logo projected onto the facade of the building and synced to the studio version of their hit song “Rock and Roll All Nite.”

KISS was greeted by a crowd of fans and media and received a proclamation from the city declaring Thursday as "KISS Day in New York City." The proclamation recognized the band's contribution to music, culture and philanthropy, and their lasting impact on generations of fans.

The band also reminisced about their humble beginnings in New York, where they formed in 1973 and played their first shows at clubs like CBGB and Coventry. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley recalled how they had a dream of putting together the band they always wanted to see on stage, and how they achieved it with hard work and perseverance.

One of the most iconic images of the band was taken on the top of the Empire State Building in 1976, when they posed with their signature makeup and costumes. The band said that they were honored to return to the landmark and celebrate their legacy.

KISS is currently on their End of the Road tour, which they announced as their final tour in 2019. The band performed the last two shows of the tour on Friday and Saturday nights at New York's Madison Square Garden.
