The Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have received another Grammy nomination for their classic song "Paint It Black" -- three weeks after the initial nominations were announced.
The rock legends are already nominated for Best Rock Song for "Angry", a new track they co-wrote and co-produced with Andrew Watt, who also worked with Ozzy Osbourne, Post Malone, and Miley Cyrus. The song is from their 2020 compilation album Goats Head Soup, which features unreleased material from the 1970s.
Now, the Recording Academy has quietly added Jagger and Richards' names to the Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella category for a cello-driven version of "Paint It Black" from the Netflix series Wednesday. The series is a dark comedy based on the Addams Family characters, created by Tim Burton. The arrangement was done by Esin Aydingoz, Chris Bacon, and Alana Da Fonseca, who are also nominated.
This is the first time that Jagger and Richards have been nominated as arrangers for the Grammy Awards. They have shared 15 nominations over the years and won three times: Best Rock Album for Voodoo Lounge in 1995, Best Music Video for "Love Is Strong" in 1995, and Best Traditional Blues Album for Blue & Lonesome in 2018.
"Paint It Black" was originally released in 1966 as a single and later included in the album Aftermath. It was the first song by a rock band to feature a sitar, played by Brian Jones. The song has been covered by many artists, such as Eric Burdon and The Animals, U2, and The Black Dahlia Murder.
The 64th Grammy Awards will take place on January 31st at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
