Fans of the Faces, the legendary band that featured Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Kenney Jones, Ian McLagan, and Ronnie Lane, have a reason to celebrate. The band is planning to release a massive reissue campaign that will include a wealth of unreleased material from their archives.
According to Faces archivist Rob Caiger, who spoke to Mojo magazine, the reissue project will feature "rehearsals, outtakes, unreleased songs, session multi-tracks, you name it." He said that it was "a joy and a privilege" to work on the project, which will showcase the band's musical genius and charisma.
Caiger also praised Wood, who is currently touring with the Rolling Stones, for having "the most incredible, organized archive" of Faces recordings. He said that Wood's archive has "never leaked out and no one’s heard it, that’s why it’s exciting."
The reissue campaign is a collaboration between Caiger, Wood, Stewart, Jones, and the estates of McLagan and Lane, who both passed away in 2014 and 1997, respectively. The band members have given their approval and input for the project, which will honor their legacy and please their fans.
The Faces, who formed in 1969 after the breakup of the Small Faces, were one of the most influential and popular bands of the 1970s. They released four studio albums and several hit singles, such as "Stay With Me," "Ooh La La," and "Cindy Incidentally." They were known for their raucous live shows, their soulful rock sound, and their humorous and irreverent attitude.
The band has long talked about reuniting, but it never comes to pass outside of the occasional one-off set at a charity event. With Stewart and Wood busy with their own projects, a tour seems unlikely in the near future.
