Elton John may have said goodbye to the road, but he hasn't stopped singing for a good cause. The legendary musician, who ended his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour, has been busy performing at various private and charity events around the world.
Since wrapping up his tour, which he said was motivated by his desire to spend more time with his family and to avoid the hassle of traveling, Elton John has graced the stages of the opening of a water park in the Dominican Republic, a birthday party in Nashville, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Brooklyn, New York, and most recently, a benefit concert in Venice, Italy.
On Tuesday night, Elton John performed a private show for 900 guests at the Le Gran Teatro La Fenice opera house, one of the most famous and prestigious venues in Italy. The concert marked the 20th anniversary of a performance he did in 2003 to celebrate the reopening of the opera house after a devastating fire in 1996.
The show was organized by the yacht company Ferretti Group, which invited Elton John as a special guest and a longtime friend. The event was also a fundraiser for Save Venice, a non-profit organization that works to protect and restore the artistic and cultural heritage of Venice, a city that is facing the threats of climate change, mass tourism, and urban decay.
Elton John, who owns an apartment in Venice, expressed his love and admiration for the city and its people, and thanked them for their hospitality and generosity. He also praised the work of Save Venice and urged the audience to support its cause.
The 90-minute set featured some of his greatest hits, such as “Rocket Man,” "Your Song," and “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word.” He also performed a duet with the Italian singer-songwriter Zucchero, who joined him on stage for a rendition of "Sacrifice."
Even though he has retired from touring, Elton John has shown that he still has the passion and the talent to entertain and inspire his fans and to make a difference in the world.
