Cher has failed to obtain temporary conservatorship over her son Elijah Allman, who she claims is suffering from "severe mental health and substance abuse issues." Allman, the son of Cher and the late rock legend Gregg Allman, appeared in court on Friday to contest his mother's request, saying he is "clean and sober" and working on his marriage.
Judge Jessica A Uzcategui ruled that Allman needed more time to review Cher's allegations and set a hearing date for January 29th. Cher's lawyer argued that an urgent order was needed to protect Allman from squandering his inheritance from his father's estate, which a trustee was about to distribute to him.
Cher also accused her daughter-in-law of being unfit to act as a conservator for Allman, citing their "tumultuous relationship" and history of drug addiction and mental health problems. Allman denied his mother's claims, saying he has been under the care of a doctor and attending AA meetings. He also said he has reconciled with his wife and dismissed his divorce petition.
He added that he was unaware of the grounds for Cher's request for temporary conservatorship, which he "naturally" opposed.
