Journey have given their fans a special treat: a remastered version of their ‘Greatest Hits’ album, which features some of their most beloved songs, such as "Faithfully", "Open Arms", and "Any Way You Want It".
The album, which was first released in 1988, has been carefully restored under the supervision of Steve Perry, the former lead singer of the band, who left in 1998. Perry said that he wanted to give the songs a new life and a new sound, while preserving their original essence.
"Because of the many different studios and many years between all these recordings, it took almost one year to complete. As it was nearing completion, I realized that--sonically and musically--this was not just another compilation, but was turning into a classic sounding new LP. This was my hope for these recordings made from a time when we were at our best," Perry said.
The remastered album is available on 180-gram vinyl and digitally and comes with a bonus: all the original music videos that accompanied the songs have been upgraded to HD quality, making them look sharper and more vibrant than ever.
Greatest Hits is not only a fan favorite, but also a commercial juggernaut. It has spent 786 weeks (about 15 years) on the Billboard 200 chart, and 1,422 weeks (about 27 and a half years) on the Billboard Catalog Albums chart, as of December 2023. It has also been re-certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) at 18x platinum, meaning that it has sold over 18 million copies in the U.S. alone. This makes it one of the Top 15 certified best-selling albums of all-time in the U.S.
Journey's ‘Greatest Hits’ is a testament to the enduring appeal and legacy of the band, which is still active and touring, with a new singer, Arnel Pineda.
