Celine Dion is ready to share her personal story with the world in a new documentary titled ‘I Am: Celine Dion.’ The film, which will be produced by Amazon, will chronicle her recent life and her battle against Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare and incurable neurological disorder that has affected her ability to sing and perform.
Stiff Person Syndrome causes muscle stiffness, spasms, and pain, and can interfere with basic functions such as walking, breathing, and speaking. Celine Dion revealed her diagnosis on Instagram in December 2022, saying, "The spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to.”
The documentary will follow her journey from discovering her condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define her. It will also show her determination to resume her performing career, which she has missed dearly. She said in a statement, “This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me. As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realized how much I have missed it, of being able to see my fans. During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life to help others who share this diagnosis.”
The documentary will also feature footage of her concerts, recordings, and family life, and interviews with her friends, colleagues, and doctors. It will be a candid and intimate portrait of a woman who has faced adversity with courage and grace, and who has inspired millions of fans with her voice and her spirit.
Amazon has not announced the release date of I Am: Celine Dion, but it is expected to be available for streaming later this year.
