Foreigner has finally received its first nomination for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, after being eligible since 2002.
The band, which has sold more than 80 million records worldwide and has 16 top 30 hits, was announced as one of the 16 nominees for the class of 2024 on Saturday. The nomination is for the original line-up of the band, which consisted of founder and guitarist Mick Jones, bassist Rick Wills, keyboardist Al Greenwood, drummer Dennis Elliott, the late bassist Ed Gagliardi, the late guitarist and keyboardist Ian McDonald, and singer Lou Gramm.
Gramm expressed his surprise and gratitude for the nomination, saying, "I have the greatest respect for the Hall of Fame, but we had been pretty much shunned for so many years that I hadn't really thought about it much anymore, you know, and was very surprised when I got a call from Foreigner's manager, Phil Carson, letting me know that we were on the nominating list,"
Foreigner is best known for classics like "I Want to Know What Love Is", "Cold as Ice", "Juke Box Hero", "Hot Blooded", and "Feels Like the First Time".
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in Cleveland, Ohio, in May 2024. The inductees will be determined by a combination of votes from over 1,000 artists, historians, and industry members, and a fan vote. Fans can cast their votes online until April 30, 2024.
