Crowded House is back with a new album, ‘Gravity Stairs,’ which will be released on May 31st. It is their first album in three years, following 2021's ‘Dreamers Are Waiting.’
Gravity Stairs is the second album from the band's latest lineup, which features original members Neil Finn (vocals, guitar) and Nick Seymour (bass), along with Finn's sons Elroy (drums) and Liam (guitar, keyboards), and Mitchell Froom (keyboards, producer). Froom is a longtime collaborator of the band, having produced their self-titled debut album in 1986, as well as several other albums by Neil Finn and his previous band Split Enz.
The title Gravity Stairs was inspired by a heavy stone staircase near where Finn goes on vacation. In a press release, Finn explained: “It’s a metaphor for getting a little older and becoming aware of your own mortality, your own physicality. You have to work a bit harder to get up those stairs, but once you do, the view is amazing.”
The album promises to deliver the classic Crowded House sound of catchy melodies, harmonies, witty lyrics, and some new sonic experiments. The first single, "Oh Hi", showcases the band's chemistry and humor. A video for the song, directed by Liam Finn, is out now on YouTube.
