The Beatles will be the subject of four new bio-pics, each one focusing on a different member of the Fab Four.
The project, which has the approval and cooperation of the surviving Beatles and their estates, is the brainchild of acclaimed British director Sam Mendes, who has won an Oscar for American Beauty and helmed two James Bond films, Skyfall and Spectre.
Mendes will direct all four films, which will feature the Beatles' music and tell the story of the band from the perspectives of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The films will be released in 2027, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the birth of Lennon, the band's founder and leader.
The films will not be chronological, but rather thematic, exploring the personalities, relationships, influences, and legacy of each Beatle. Mendes said he wanted to create a cinematic mosaic that would capture the essence and diversity of the Beatles, as well as their impact on culture and society.
"This is not a conventional bio-pic, but a celebration of the Beatles as artists and individuals," Mendes said in a statement. "Each film will have its own tone, style, and vision, reflecting the unique voice and vision of each Beatle. But they will also intersect and overlap, creating a rich and complex portrait of the band as a whole."
The project marks the first time that the Beatles have officially sanctioned a bio-pic, apart from their own Anthology documentary in 1995.
The cast and crew of the four films have not been announced yet, but Mendes said he was looking for fresh and talented actors and filmmakers who could bring the Beatles to life on the screen.
"I want to work with people who love the Beatles as much as I do, and who can bring their own vision and passion to this project," he said. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pay tribute to the greatest band of all time, and I can't wait to share it with the world."
