Madonna has made a bold statement about her longevity and relevance in a strange short film that she directed for a Brazilian bank.
The film, which was released online on Wednesday, was commissioned by Itau Bank to mark its 100th anniversary. However, the film seems to focus more on Madonna than on the bank, as she walks up a staircase in a dramatic black gown and delivers a monologue about her status as the Queen of Pop.
"They call me the Queen of Pop. I know it’s a compliment, but the monarchy is in the past. I am not. I have no age. I’m all ages. It’s not about who I am. It’s about how many I am. Not everyone is coming to the future, but I am. I’ll keep going. Today, tomorrow and the next 100 years. We are made of the future," she says in the film.
The bank, which also shared the film on its social media accounts, said it was made "in honor of the future we have been creating for 100 years." It is unclear how much Madonna was paid for the project, or what her connection to the bank is.
The film has received mixed reactions from fans and critics, with some praising Madonna's creativity and confidence, and others mocking her for being narcissistic and out of touch.
Madonna, who turned 63 last year, is no stranger to controversy and reinvention. She is currently working on a biopic about her life, which she will co-write and direct. She is also rumored to be releasing a new album this year.
