Def Leppard's 'Pyromania' celebrates 40 years

One of the most influential and successful rock albums of all time, ‘Pyromania’ by Def Leppard, will get a special treatment for its 40th anniversary. The band has announced that they will release a deluxe edition of the album on April 26th, featuring rare and unreleased material, as well as a re-mastered version of the original album.

Pyromania, released in 1983, was the third studio album by the British rock band, and the first to feature guitarist Phil Collen, who replaced Pete Willis. The album was produced by Mutt Lange, who helped the band craft a polished and powerful sound that combined hard rock, pop, and metal. The album spawned several hit singles, including "Photograph", "Rock of Ages", and "Foolin'", and sold over 10 million copies in the U.S., earning a Diamond certification by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album also received critical acclaim and is widely regarded as one of the best albums of the 1980s and of the rock genre.

The deluxe edition of Pyromania will include a disc of unheard demos that singer Joe Elliott recently discovered while going through the band's archives, including an unfinished song called "No You Can't Do That". The deluxe edition will also feature two live shows from the Pyromania tour, recorded at the Forum in Inglewood, California, and Westfalen Halle in Dortmund, Germany. Additionally, the deluxe edition will come with a Blu Ray disc that contains an Atmos mix of the album, supervised by Giles Martin, son of the legendary Beatles producer George Martin. The Blu Ray disc will also have 5.1, stereo and instrumental mixes of the album, as well as five promo videos for the singles. Furthermore, the deluxe edition will include a book that details the history and making of the album, with rare and unseen photos and interviews with the band members and other collaborators.

Elliott and Collen expressed their excitement and pride for the deluxe edition of Pyromania and shared their memories and insights about the album.

Elliott said that working on the deluxe edition was a "labor of love" and that he enjoyed "rediscovering dusty old cassettes" and finding the "long lost unfinished 11th track". He also said that Pyromania was "a journey only few of us are lucky enough to take" and that he was happy to share it with the fans. Collen said that Pyromania was "a really special album for obvious reasons" and that it was the first time he worked with Lange and his "incredible friend" Steve Clark, who died in 1991. He also said that he was "incredibly proud" of the album and what the band achieved.

The deluxe edition of Pyromania will be available in various formats, including a four-disc set with all the extras, a two-disc set with the original album and the demos, a vinyl LP, and a digital download. To celebrate the announcement, the band will release a rough mix version of "Photograph" this Friday, as a preview of what the fans can expect from the deluxe edition.
