Billy Idol is celebrating the 40th anniversary of his iconic album "Rebel Yell" with an expanded edition. Among the previously unheard tracks is "Best Way Out of Here." Idol himself describes it as having a Prince vibe, a nod to the legendary musician who left an indelible mark on the '80s music landscape.
Talking about the track, Billy said, “It sounds to me like, yeah, that's what Steve [Stevens] was going for. 'Cause yeah, I was listening to Prince a lot. I mean that's one of the people I was really looking to, you know, like for like where we going in the '80s. Steve's also, I think he's a bit of a black man in disguise. He's a Jewish guy, but really he's a black guy somewhere inside. You know, you think of Steve as a lead guitarist, but his rhythm playing is really tight and sexy. So I think he was probably like vibing off of Prince a little bit and that's what I think we were going for. You know, we were kind of vibing off [his 1981 album] Controversy and things like that."
Tonight, Idol and Stevens will mark the anniversary by performing an acoustic set during a lighting ceremony atop the Empire State Building in New York City.
