Ann Wilson has voiced her concerns about the modern concert-going experience. In an era where smartphones are ubiquitous, Wilson finds it disconcerting when fans use their devices to film her performances. But what she finds even more distracting is when fans turn their backs to the stage to take selfies, using her and the band as a mere backdrop.
In a recent interview with the Broken Record podcast, Ann elaborated on her feelings. She explained that it's particularly distracting when fans approach the front of the stage, turn their backs to her, and snap a selfie with her in the background. She feels like it reduces her to a mere prop in their social media narratives. "You just want to sort of jump out of the way," she confessed.
Despite her frustrations, Wilson empathizes with her fans' desire to capture memories of the concert. "To be fair, it's a big night for them and they want to preserve some little memory of it," she conceded. Ann then firmly asserted her stance, stating, "I’m not a backdrop."
