The Heartbreakers may be gearing up for a grand celebration of their 50th anniversary in 2026. Guitarist Mike Campbell revealed in an interview with ‘Rolling Stone’ that management has proposed a reunion of the original band members for a few special shows. The plan also includes inviting guest singers to perform.
But Campbell has expressed his reservations about the idea, saying, "I’m not ready to go back and do that. I don’t want to do anything to dishonor the legacy." The thought of others singing Tom Petty's parts leaves him with mixed feelings. Mike is open to the idea but not overly enthralled. Campbell believes there is something commendable about leaving the band as it was, having ended on a high note musically.
Tom Petty passed away after an accidental drug overdose in 2017. Mike Campbell his his band The Dirty Knobs will release a new album "Vagabonds, Virgins & Misfits" on June 14th.
