Def Leppard's Phil Collen comments on Journey's issues

Despite the ongoing tensions between Journey’s Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain during their summer tour with Def Leppard, Leppard's guitarist Phil Collen assured Rolling Stone that it was business as usual.

Collen mentioned that the issues between Schon and Cain were not evident when the bands interacted. Collen said that Journey’s performances remained magical, with hits like “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Open Arms” captivating the audience. When asked if Def Leppard could perform under similar circumstances, Collen talked about the iconic band’s unique approach to camaraderie.

He explained that Def Leppard always shares a single dressing room, fostering a close knit environment where everyone cuts up and laughs. Collen said hoped that Journey would resolve their issues but noted that Def Leppard’s approach to unity prevents those kinds of conflicts.

Phil also shared insights into Def Leppard’s ongoing creative process. He revealed that the band continues to work on new music, even while on tour, often collaborating in hotel rooms. Leppard's last album, Diamond Star Halos, was released in 2022. Their latest single, “Just Like '73,” featuring Tom Morello on guitar, came out in June.
