This past Sunday night, the Hudson Square Theater at Disney's New York City headquarters was buzzing with excitement for the premiere of ‘Beatles ’64,’ a new documentary produced by Martin Scorsese and directed by David Tedeschi. The event drew a star-studded crowd, including Paul McCartney, Olivia Harrison, Sean Lennon, Elvis Costello, and many others. The screening was followed by a brief Q&A session with Scorsese and Tedeschi, hosted by actor Ethan Hawke.
The documentary takes a nostalgic look back at The Beatles' first visit to America, featuring newly filmed interviews with McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as archival clips of John Lennon and George Harrison. Music legends like Smokey Robinson, Ronald Isley, and the late Ronnie Spector also make appearances, along with a few female fans who were outside the Plaza Hotel during The Beatles' stay, sharing how their lives were transformed by the band.
One of the highlights of Beatles ’64 is the newly restored 4K footage shot by Albert and David Maysles in 1964, showcasing The Beatles' first U.S. concert at the Washington, D.C. Coliseum and their iconic Ed Sullivan Show appearances. These performances have been de-mixed and remixed by producer Giles Martin. The documentary streams on Disney+ starting this Saturday, November 29th.
