Over 300 pages of typed legal documents related to The Beatles’ break-up are set to go up for auction. These papers, which have been missing for over 50 years, offer a fascinating glimpse into the tumultuous period leading up to the iconic band’s official split in 1970, which was legally finalized in 1974. The auction, taking place on December 12th in Maidenhead, England, is expected to fetch between $6,000 and $10,000.
Denise Kelly of Dawsons auctioneers shared her experience with the documents, saying, "I just couldn’t put them down until I had read every page." As she sat through many meetings, which included discussions between legal teams and accountants, Denise says she could sense the growing panic as more complexities emerged. One lawyer even suggested, in a moment of exasperation, "Would it be easier if The Beatles just retired?" Kelly mused that these documents alone could serve as the perfect script for a film about the band's dramatic break-up.
For Beatles enthusiasts, these documents are more than just historical artifacts; they are a window into the real story behind one of the best-selling bands in history going their separate ways.
