Steve Miller is set to receive a big honor next month as the Les Paul Foundation presents him with its annual Les Paul Spirit Award. This prestigious recognition, named after the legendary guitarist and innovator Les Paul, holds special meaning for Stevie—not only because of his musical achievements, but also because Les Paul was his godfather. The award ceremony will take place on June 9th at the Gibson Garage in Nashville, a date that marks Les Paul's 110th birthday.
Michael Braunstein, executive director of the Les Paul Foundation, expressed deep admiration for Miller, saying, “I cannot think of anyone more deserving… If Les were still alive today, Steve and he would be jamming at his house regularly.” Their bond was more than musical—it was personal. Les Paul taught Miller his first guitar chords and inspired him to pursue music from the age of five. “I saw him play probably 20 times when I was five years old, and I decided that’s what I wanted to do,” Miller recalled.
The Les Paul Spirit Award is crafted from hand-carved acoustic boards used by Les Paul in his home studio, symbolizing innovation, engineering, and musical excellence. Past recipients include icons like Bob Weir, Nile Rodgers, The Edge, and Peter Frampton.
