John Fogerty celebrates a big milestone. The legendary rocker turned 80 today. Fogerty shared, “Probably the simplest thing I can say is I'm happy and ready to celebrate all this stuff and then I can't wait to get past it and start something new.” Born on May 28, 1945, in the Bay Area, John Fogerty has spent decades shaping the sound of American rock, and now he’s marking this special birthday in a way that feels just right to him—on stage.
Tonight and tomorrow, Fogerty will celebrate with back-to-back shows at the iconic Beacon Theatre in New York City. “I just thought, well, we want to have a party,” he said. “I want to do it someplace that I'm familiar with… it just seemed like the right setting to me.” With a career that spans from his days with Creedence Clearwater Revival to his solo success, the Beacon is a fitting venue for a man whose music has become part of the American soundtrack.
As a birthday gift to fans, Fogerty recently released a new version of his CCR classic “Up Around the Bend” featuring country star Eric Church. The track debuted during the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte and will serve as the racing association’s theme song for the year. Beyond music, Fogerty’s legacy includes his service in the Army Reserve, induction into both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and even a spot in the National Baseball Hall of Fame for his “Centerfield” bat guitar. He’s also a proud family man, married to his wife Julie, with whom he shares a band—and a life—with their children, including sons Shane and Tyler, who perform alongside him.
