Billy Idol's big surprise

In a surprising twist revealed in the new documentary ‘Billy Idol Should Be Dead,’ which premiered last week at the Tribeca Festival in New York, Billy Idol discovered he has a second son. The revelation came through a 23andMe DNA test gifted to his daughter Bonnie, whom he shares with Linda Mathis. “My husband just surprised me with a 23andMe DNA test as a Christmas present,” Bonnie shares in the film. “And then a few weeks later, I get the results back on the app and open it and I’m like, who is this? This Brant. And it says his info’s like, New York, 1985, looking for my bio dad. I was like, ‘What?’”

Despite the unexpected nature of the discovery, Billy Idol didn’t hesitate to embrace his son. “Once I saw Brant with Bonnie and [my first son] Willem, they’ve all got the same quirky sense of humor. And once I saw that, I could see he’s my son, really,” Idol says in the film. Brant, now fully part of the Idol family, expressed his gratitude: “He’s definitely showed me a lot of love, so I’m blessed.” The documentary, directed by Jonas Åkerlund, offers a raw and riveting look at Idol’s life, from his punk roots to his personal reckonings. Billy Idol is set to kick off a European tour starting June 18th in Germany.
