The Who kicked off their North American Farewell Tour, ‘The Song Is Over,’ with a rockin’ show last Saturday night at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, just outside Fort Lauderdale. For the first time ever, the legendary band performed “Going Mobile” from their 1971 album Who’s Next. Though it’s a regular in Roger Daltrey’s solo shows, it was sung this time by Pete Townshend’s younger brother, Simon Townshend, who also performs it in Daltrey’s band.

Daltrey has been big on the idea of refreshing the setlist with songs that haven’t been played live—or at least not often. In a recent interview, Daltrey explained his approach: “This is a fact, it has to be said, he just doesn't dedicate as much time to thinking about the shows as I do… I like to listen to what the fans say… even if it's only for two songs a night. It’s that little thing that just keeps it fresh.” The second surprise of the night came with the U.S. debut of “The Song Is Over,” which had only been performed twice before—once in London this past March and again in Italy last month.

The rest of the show was a celebration of The Who’s greatest hits with staples like “I Can’t Explain,” “Who Are You,” “Behind Blue Eyes,” “Pinball Wizard,” “You Better You Bet,” “Love, Reign O’er Me,” “Baba O’Riley,” and t“Won’t Get Fooled Again.”
