Bob Dylan turns 80 today

The legendary Bob Dylan celebrates his 80th birthday today and we’re taking a look back at the life and career of the iconic singer-songwriter.

Dylan was born Robert Allen Zimmerman in Duluth, Minnesota on May 24th, 1941.Despite the fact that he’s long past the traditional retirement age, Bob Dylan is still very much active in his decades long career.

Dylan once said, "I don't see why you can't last as long as you want to last." He’s certainly taken that to heart. Bob released his 39th studio album, ‘Rough and Rowdy Ways,’ just last year.

Zimmerman moved to New York in 1961 and began performing using the name Bob Dylan. He legally changed his name when he released his self-titled album in 1962.

Bob Dylan has actually written more than 600 songs. He just sold the publishing rights to those songs for more than $300 million. Dylan has released over 50 albums and has plans to continue touring.

He’s also enshrined in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Dylan has piled up 10 Grammy Awards, along with an Oscar, Golden Globe, Nobel Prize, a Pulitzer Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and loads of other awards.

Bob has been married twice and has six children. We’re saluting a true American icon—the legendary Bob Dylan on his 80th birthday.
