Janet Jackson didn’t always want to be a singer. Her plan was to support herself as an actress while she pursued her ambition of being an entertainment lawyer.
The Jacksons’ younger sister was actually messing around in the family’s studio and recorded a song before she went to school. Janet apparently forgot to destroy the tape, and by the time she got home, her dad and brothers were listening to it.
Joe Jackson, who tightly controlled the family’s music career told his daughter she could be a performer. Janet disagreed at the time, but later changed her mind and rest is history. Janet's new documentary will premiere on cable later this month.
