Elton John celebrates a big one

Elton John celebrates a big milestone today. The iconic singer-songwriter turns 75 today and he’s busier than ever.

Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25th, 1947 in Pinner, England, Elton John formed his first band Bluesology in 1962. He and longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin began their decades-long partnership in 1967.

That partnership has resulted in dozens of hits for Elton, who has sold more than 300 million records worldwide. He also won two Academy Awards and five Grammy Awards. Elton is continuing on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour this spring.

Elton recently commented on his long career, saying, "I honestly feel I couldn't have asked for a better life. I mean I wanted to be involved in music, whether it was working in a record store, whether it was working with publishers, whether it was writing, whether it was...I didn't envisage ever being a singer. That happened by accident. But I just love what I do. And as I've grown older I love to play live much more -- I feel much more comfortable with my own self. So being on stage is much more comfortable to me. I don't have to hide behind big glasses and costumes anymore. Things are pretty damn good."

Happy birthday Sir Elton John…and many more!
