Next Wednesday, April 20th, marks the 30th anniversary of the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness at Wembley Stadium in London in 1993.
Queen have been posting performance videos, written pieces, interviews, merchandise, playlists and photos to commemorate the anniversary. The highlight will be the unveiling of a new Mercury Phoenix Trust, the AIDS charity started by Queen, and the streaming of the concert on the band's official YouTube channel.
The landmark concert featured performances by Queen, Elton John, Ian Hunter, Def Leppard, Guns n' Roses, Metallica, U2, David Bowie, Roger Daltrey, George Michael and many others. The campaign officially started with a letter written by Queen drummer Roger Taylor with him outlining the need for the tribute concert and what he hoped it would achieve.
