The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has officially announced its 2022 Inductees. Pat Benatar and husband Neil Giraldo are finally in, along with Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Carly Simon, Lionel Richie and Dolly Parton.
The Performer Category highlights artists who have created music whose originality, impact, and influence has changed the course of rock & roll. Here’s the list, including responses from a couple of artists:
- Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo - "We are thrilled and humbled to become part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame family. Thank you to everyone who voted especially the fans and congratulations to all the other inductees."
- Duran Duran
- Eminem
- Eurythmics
- Dolly Parton
- Carly Simon
- Lionel Richie - "Being elected to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is an incredible honor. I would like to say THANK YOU to all of the voters, to all of my wonderful fans and to everyone at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Congratulations to all of my fellow 2022 inductees!"
In a post on Instagram Dolly Parton wrote, "I am honored and humbled by the fact that I have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Of course I will accept it gracefully. Thanks to everyone that voted for me and to everyone at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I will continue to work hard and try to live up to the honor."
The Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart has also commented on he and Annie Lennox being elected for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Speaking to Billboard Stewart said, "We're both, I supposed, kind of shocked, because we'd been nominated before." He added, “It was an interesting moment, because as soon as we were told by email by somebody, we emailed each other and then we talked to each other, and we have a very dry English and Scottish — Annie’s Scottish — dry humor, you know? It’s part of being English or Scottish to play everything down. It’s not sort of cool to leap around and go, ‘Wow!’ But underneath all that, we’re both really excited and honored, actually.”
Duran Duran finished first in the Fan Vote followed in order by Eminem, Pat Benatar, Eurythmics and Dolly Parton.
