Julian Lennon recently shared his first-ever cover version of his father John Lennon’s all-time classic “Imagine,” and he said it wasn’t really a great experience for him.
Julian appeared on Elton John’s “Rocket Hour” radio show and said, "Let me tell you ... since I’ve been in the business, I’ve kind of been dreading the day." Julian went on to say, "Because I’d always said that I would only actually sing it if it felt like it was the end of the world, in many respects."
Julian recorded his version of “Imagine” for Global Citizen’s Stand Up For Ukraine special, and Julian said with Russian-Ukraine war going on he felt now was the time, but wanted to do his “own take,” while still respecting the original. Julian said, "For me, the only way I could do that was, take it away from the piano the plunky piano, and do it as raw, as unproduced as possible and as heartfelt as possible.”
Julian does plan to release the song as a charity single for refugees in Ukraine "and around the world."
